Mary Farmer has been a visual artist for more than 15 years and has had gallery showings and juried shows in Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco, Indianapolis, Athens, GA, Mill Valley, CA, Laredo, TX, among others. Awards she has received include: cash prize, The Postcard Show, Lincoln Center, NYC, NY; Atlanta College of Art's Presidential Scholarship; cash prize, 10th International Juried Exhibition, The Lardeo Center for the Arts.
Mary works primarily in encaustic, drawn by the depth that can be achieved by applying numerous layers of the medium. Mary, a very physical painter, enjoys laboring over her work, and the bold color and gesture in her paintings reflect that. She often works in series in an effort to express her ideas more comprehensively.
A Californian, Mary is a multi-degree holder, and completed her BFA studies cum laude. Mary has worked in several fields, including sales and marketing for a major international pharmaceutical company. She is also a published author having written a best-selling reference book on developing and marketing rental properties. When not painting, she spends her time gardening, marketing her art and traveling with her husband. Her studio is located in Novato, CA.
